The Ministry of National Defense has confirmed that the AKYA Heavy-Class Combat Torpedo is now in serial production and is being delivered to submarines. The Ministry of National Defense has officially stated on its social media platform that the AKYA Heavy-Class Combat Torpedo, which was created by ROKETSAN using domestic resources and expertise to meet the requirements of the Naval Forces Command, has now entered the phase of mass production and is being delivered to submarines.

The announcement shared the following information:

“In line with the needs of the Naval Forces Command, the domestically developed AKYA Heavy-Class Combat Torpedo by ROKETSAN has entered serial production and deliveries to our submarines have started. The Akya torpedo is a new generation, heavy class, long-range torpedo being developed by ArMerKom, TÜBİTAK and Roketsan. Although Akya was planned to enter the Turkish Navy inventory in 2021, the first test shot with a warhead was fired on December 27, 2023 and the target ship was sunk. Turkiye has officially entered the league of ‘Heavy Torpedo’ producers, joining countries like Germany, the U.S., and the U.K. with ROKETSAN AKYA. This milestone comes with the completion of qualification tests for the AKYA torpedo, boasting a range exceeding 50 kilometers and a speed surpassing 45 knots. This development positions Turkiye as a key player in the production of advanced torpedoes for submarine platforms worldwide.
