President Erdogan denounces Israel’s actions in Gaza during Istanbul iftar event, saying UN is ‘merely watching’
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivers scathing critique of Israel at iftar event in Istanbul, labeling it as “inhuman terror state” for its actions in Gaza
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in a notable address during an iftar event held in Istanbul on Saturday, delivered scathing criticism directed at Israel, labeling it as an “inhuman terror state” for its actions in Gaza. The event, which brought together representatives from the business community, became a platform for Erdogan to express his concerns over the ongoing situation in the region.
Speaking passionately, President Erdogan stated, “Israel, which is an inhuman terror state, has been nefariously massacring our Gazan brothers and sisters for 168 days, ignoring whether they are children, women, elderly or civilians, and has been carrying out a genocide more brutal than the ones in the Second World War.” His words underscored the severity of the situation, accusing Israel of committing atrocities against the people of Gaza.
Erdogan did not mince his words when he criticized the perceived inaction of international bodies, particularly singling out the United Nations. He lamented, “And international organizations and institutions, the United Nations in particular, are merely watching this barbarity of the Israeli administration except simple reactions.” This condemnation highlighted his frustration with what he portrayed as Israeli “barbarity” and the lack of robust responses from global organizations.
In a rare move, Erdogan highlighted the limited international condemnation of Israel’s actions, noting that only a handful of countries, including Türkiye, have raised their voices against the perceived injustices in Gaza. He emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to working with regional allies to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, expressing a determination to provide assistance to ease their plight.
The President’s remarks come amidst escalating tensions in the region, with Gaza continuing to be a flashpoint for conflict. Erdogan’s outspoken stance against Israel signals Türkiye’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, further solidifying its position as a vocal advocate for the rights of the oppressed.
