Pentagon confirms strong security cooperation with Türkiye
The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) confirmed that following a recent terrorist attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), Türkiye and the U.S. are maintaining close communication and coordination regarding Türkiye’s operations against terrorist targets in Syria.
During a press briefing, Pentagon Spokesperson Brigadier General Patrick Ryder addressed Türkiye’s recent security actions.
Pentagon reaffirms support for Türkiye’s security concerns
Discussing the Turkish Air Force operations targeting PKK/YPG positions in northern Syria, Ryder stated that the U.S. acknowledges “Türkiye’s legitimate security concerns in light of the recent terrorist attack.” He emphasized that the U.S. recognizes the PKK as a terrorist organization and pointed out that “both countries are committed to keeping an open line of communication as valued NATO allies.”
Maintaining open communication as NATO allies
“We have effective coordination and communication with our Turkish allies, and we will continue collaborating closely within this framework,” Ryder further noted. He highlighted that the U.S. understands Türkiye’s security needs and is dedicated to maintaining open communication channels.
Türkiye’s Minister of Defense Yasir Guler recently spoke on the phone with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd James Austin to discuss bilateral and regional defense and security issues, according to a statement from the Turkish Ministry of National Defense.
