NSC meeting concludes, emphasizing Türkiye’s commitment to security
Türkiye’s National Security Council (NSC) meeting, chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, lasted approximately 3.5 hours.
After the meeting, the Communications Directorate released a five-point statement outlining key national security and international relations issues.
Key points of NSC meeting
- Counter-terrorism operations:
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing operations against terrorist organizations, including PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETO, and ISIS. The importance of determination and resolve in addressing both domestic and international threats to national unity and integrity was emphasized. - Syria:
Efforts to neutralize terrorist organizations operating in Syria will continue without interruption. The Council stressed the need to prevent any plans or actions that could undermine national security. Furthermore, it indicated that increased efforts will focus on resolving conflicts in line with the interests of the Syrian people and the broader region. - Cooperation with Iraq:
The Council reiterated its commitment to enhancing cooperation with Iraq in combating shared threats from terrorist organizations, particularly PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG. The significance of ensuring the security, peace, and prosperity of the Iraqi people was highlighted.
- Palestinian situation:
The Council condemned the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people and called for urgent international efforts to achieve a lasting ceasefire and peace in Palestine. It urged responsible international actors, including the United Nations Security Council, to address Israel’s escalating violence in the region. Türkiye also reaffirmed its support for the Lebanese people and government in response to Israeli assaults.
- Stability in the Mediterranean and Aegean:
The Council emphasized that Türkiye will not allow the exploitation of its sincere efforts to establish permanent stability and peace in the Mediterranean and Aegean regions. The importance of rational decision-making and collaboration was stressed as a prudent approach.
The NSC meeting aimed to reinforce Türkiye’s national security strategies and assert its position on critical international issues, highlighting its commitment to regional stability and global peace.
