Moldovan Foreign Minister Popsoi emphasizes the importance of Türkiye’s increased presence in the region as a catalyst for peace, stability and engagement

Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi lauded the resilient ties between Türkiye and Moldova, emphasizing Türkiye’s pivotal role as a stabilizing force in the region. Popsoi expressed his appreciation for the positive and collaborative atmosphere.

“Platforms like the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF) are crucial during challenging times, providing leaders, ministers, and prime ministers an opportunity to openly discuss and implement solutions for the benefit of their people and the region,” Popsoi said.

Great relations at highest level

Describing the relationship with Türkiye, Popsoi highlighted, “We have great bilateral relations with Türkiye. We have great contacts at the highest level.”

He said the Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean attended the ADF and had a positive exchange with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. He also highlighted the importance of advancing relations between the two nations across political, economic, and security domains.

Popsoi stressed: “We want Türkiye to be more present. We appreciate Türkiye’s vision and participation in the region as an actor of peace and as an actor that promotes stability and engagement. So, I am very much looking forward to cooperating more with Türkiye.”

Popsoi also brought up the prospect of inviting Fidan to Moldova, aiming to bolster relations for the mutual benefit of both nations.

International partnerships for regional security

Popsoi reiterated Moldova’s strong adherence to international law, saying, “We are strong adherents to international law. We would also like to see peace and stability across our region.”

He called for an end to the “unacceptable” nature of the suffering in Gaza and emphasized the need for respecting international law and liberating all victims.

Popsoi praised international partners, including Türkiye, as crucial contributors to regional security, stating, “We also count on our international partners to be accurate for peace, actors for stability.”

He expressed trust in their assistance in maintaining stability in Moldova and appreciated the valuable discussions at the ADF on regional cooperation and peace.
