Individual released after detention for controversial Instagram comments
Dilruba Kayserilioglu, detained in Izmir after commenting on an Instagram ban in a street interview, has been released from jail.
Kayserilioglu faced charges of “inciting hatred and enmity among the public” and “insulting the president,” which led to her arrest and imprisonment.
Kayserilioglu’s lawyer appealed the detention, and during the consideration of the appeal, the court decided to uphold Kayserilioglu’s custody on charges of “inciting hatred and enmity among the public” and “publicly insulting.”
Main opposition leader Ozgur Ozel’s visit
Amid public outcry over her detention, main opposition CHP leader Ozgur Ozel visited Kayserilioglu in Izmir, condemning her detention as unlawful. Ozel stated, “No matter how shocking one’s views might be, everyone has the right to express any opinion, provided it does not incite violence. This is a constitutional right. If you question this constitutional right, it means you are a despot.”
Kayserilioglu, who had been in custody for 18 days, was released from prison around 2 a.m. The reason behind her release has not yet been issued.
