FM Fidan to attend OIC Summit for urgent Gaza solution
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan set to join the 15th OIC Islamic Summit in Banjul to address urgent measures against Israel’s attacks on Gaza and advocate for a two-state solution
Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan will attend the 15th Islamic Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Banjul, the capital of Gambia, on 4-5 May
The summit aims to urgently end Israel’s attacks on Gaza and to take concrete steps toward a permanent solution.
“Time elapsed is against the Palestinian people. Elements of pressure against Israel and countries supporting Israel must be implemented immediately,” says Fidan.
Türkiye’s OIC agenda
The ongoing massacre in Gaza must stop as soon as possible, and the cease-fire must be permanent.
Humanitarian aid must reach Gaza urgently and continuously. Türkiye ranks first among countries providing aid to Gaza. Since Oct. 7, 2023, the total amount of humanitarian aid sent to Gaza by Türkiye, consisting of 13 planes and nine ships, has approached 50,000 tons.
The international community must make efforts for Israeli officials to be held accountable before justice. Türkiye has decided to intervene in the ongoing genocide case at the International Court of Justice for this purpose.
A joint campaign should be conducted for more countries to recognize the state of Palestine. Injustice in Gaza can only be permanently ended with the realization of a two-state solution. We must strive to achieve this goal.
The just cause of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Western Thrace Turks, Crimean Tatar Turks, and Uyghur Turks will also be brought to the agenda by Türkiye at the summit. Türkiye’s views on combating Islamophobia will be conveyed.
During the summit, Fidan will also hold bilateral meetings, the focus of which will be on the latest situation in Gaza.
