Fidan reminded of the recent ninth meeting of the High Strategic Committee held in Doha under the leadership of the two countries’ leaders, noting that the next meeting is scheduled to take place in Türkiye later this year.

He mentioned the opportunity to comprehensively address economic and trade cooperation between the two countries during the current talks, expressing confidence in achieving the target of a $5 billion trade volume in the short to medium term.

Fidan also highlighted discussions on deepening existing cooperation in areas such as investments, tourism, and energy, noting the Turkish Parliament’s recent approval of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement in February.

Regarding military and defense industry cooperation, Fidan noted discussions during the meeting and the evaluation of the activities of the Turkish-Qatari Joint Military Command in Doha.

Calls for unified response

Fidan emphasized the imperative for Israel to comply with U.N. Security Council Resolution 2728 and the interim measures issued by the International Court of Justice, stressing the urgent need for an immediate and lasting cease-fire, followed by steps toward a two-state solution.

He compared the unified response of Western countries to Iran with the current situation involving Israel, calling for countries with influence over Israel, particularly the United States, to demonstrate a similar united stance and demand accountability from Israel.

“We, as countries of the region, don’t want third parties to bring their own conflicts to this geography,” Fidan said.

Fidan also mentioned discussions with his Qatari counterpart on additional joint steps to address the wounds of the Palestinian people, expressing Türkiye’s support for Qatar’s efforts toward achieving a cease-fire.

Cooperation with Qatar at highest level

Highlighting the intensive coordination between Türkiye and Qatar, especially on the Palestinian issue, Fidan emphasized ongoing dialogue and cooperation at various levels, including within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group and bilateral discussions.

He noted Türkiye’s and Qatar’s support for Hamas in the cease-fire negotiations and ongoing efforts to support the Palestinian cause. Fidan emphasized the importance of dispelling misconceptions about Hamas and promoting a two-state solution, based on his discussions with Hamas leaders.

Fidan concluded by expressing satisfaction with the messages received from Hamas leaders, emphasizing their acceptance of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders and the potential for progress toward peace in the region.
