Erdogan plans major Cabinet reshuffle in Türkiye, media reports
The ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party), under President and Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is preparing for significant changes in AK Party leadership and the cabinet ahead of its congress scheduled for late February, according to Türkiye daily.
Discussions about reshaping the party, which began after local elections, are expected to conclude with the congress.
Possible Cabinet reshuffle in Türkiye
Major changes are anticipated in the party administration, and a Cabinet reshuffle will likely occur around the same time. AK Party insiders say at least five to six ministers may be replaced.
While attention is focused on potential new faces, some key figures are expected to retain their positions. These include Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Minister of Environment Murat Kurum and Defense Minister Yasar Guler.
Meanwhile, “It wouldn’t be surprising if anyone outside these names is replaced,” an AK Party source said.
Changes in parliamentary group leadership
Changes are also expected in the parliamentary group leadership by June. A new election will be held for one group chairman and five deputy group chairmen.
Some current deputy group chairmen may be replaced, following recent public complaints regarding both the party headquarters and the parliamentary group, Erdogan suggested in a meeting with provincial heads.
Additionally, the term of the current Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus will end in June.
However, Kurtulmus is likely to be renominated for the position, with AK Party sources indicating his strong candidacy for another term.
