Erdogan and Greek PM Mitsotakis meet to forge future cooperation

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday to address Türkiye-Greece relations and broader global issues, including the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

During their discussions, Erdogan expressed optimism about future cooperation, stating, “Türkiye and Greece can move forward with confident steps towards the future based on good neighborliness.”

Strengthening dialogue

He emphasized the importance of strengthening dialogue between the two nations, noting that adherence to the principles outlined in the Athens Declaration would benefit both countries.

Turning to the Gaza crisis, Erdogan condemned Israel’s military actions, asserting, “Israel’s attacks in various regions, particularly Gaza, target innocent civilians as well as the peace of the region.”

He warned of the potential for the crisis to escalate, underscoring the need for pressure on Israel to ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
