There can be no peace if Israel continues to deny the most fundamental rights of the Palestinian people, Turkish President Erdogan says, criticizing the U.S.’ failure to take decisive action for permanent peace in Gaza

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed journalists on his way back from Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, highlighting recent discussions with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi regarding positive strides in humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza. Erdogan emphasized the urgency of continuing pressure on Israel in this regard.

He noted ongoing efforts by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to engage with key stakeholders, including el-Sissi and U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Erdogan advocates for permanent peace

Regarding recent attacks in the Rafah region, Erdogan condemned Israel’s actions in Palestine, underscoring the gravity of the situation and urging swift intervention. He emphasized the moral imperative of addressing these atrocities and called for global attention to the plight of Palestinians.

In a separate context, Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s ongoing pursuit of lasting peace, highlighting efforts to isolate Israel diplomatically and advocate for a comprehensive solution to the conflict.

Peace efforts stymied by US inaction

President Erdogan expressed frustration over the lack of progress in peace efforts, attributing the impasse to the U.S.’ negative stance. Despite U.S. claims of dispatching senior officials to address the crisis, Erdogan lamented the absence of tangible outcomes.

Nevertheless, Erdogan affirmed Türkiye’s commitment to pursuing a cease-fire and peace, underscoring the urgency of the situation. He emphasized ongoing diplomatic engagements with Western counterparts, urging collaborative efforts to yield positive results in ending Israel’s war on Palestine.
