Thieves on the run after stealing $4.6 million from luxury Turkish mansion
A late-night, well-orchestrated theft occurred yesterday at the Memduh Pasha Mansion in Sarıyer, Istanbul, leaving residents in disbelief and law enforcement authorities in a race against time.
According to reports, Ahmet Y., employed as a private security guard at the mansion, allegedly deactivated the alarm system, facilitating the entry of 4 masked individuals during the late hours of the night.
4 safes emptied of $4.6 million
The thieves, equipped with a van, swiftly accessed and looted four safes, absconding with approximately 150 million Turkish lira ($4.6 million) worth of foreign currency. They loaded the stolen cash into sacks and swiftly fled the premises.
Upon receiving a distress call from business owner Umit E. in the morning, law enforcement authorities rushed to the scene. An examination of security camera footage unveiled the entire sequence of events: Ahmet Y. aiding the masked intruders, the safe-cracking operation, the packing of currency into sacks, and the getaway with the van.
