The Centre for Combating Disinformation has denied claims of a riot at Istanbul’s Metris Prison. The center clarified in a statement that a fire broke out in the prison but was quickly contained by prison staff.

“A prisoner set his bed on fire. The flames were quickly extinguished by staff before spreading, and the fire brigade was called as a precaution,” the statement read.

Footage captured by citizens showed emergency teams waiting outside the prison before fire trucks entered the facility.

Amid discussions about a potential prisoner rebellion, the Centre for Combating Disinformation issued another statement: “An inmate set his bed on fire, but the flames were contained by staff before turning into a full fire. The fire brigade was called as a precaution. There was no fire in Metris Prison, and no prisoners or staff were harmed.”
