Turkish Coast Guard teams intercepted 107 irregular migrants and rescued 49 others in multiple operations across the Izmir region, according to a statement released by the Coast Guard Command.

The operations unfolded across several districts, with migrants detained both at sea and onshore.

In Karaburun, a rubber boat carrying 41 irregular migrants, including one child, was intercepted following reports of suspicious activity in the area.

In Dikili, coast guard teams apprehended 30 migrants, nine of whom were children, after detecting a group on land.

In Foca, land-based teams of the Coast Guard identified and detained 21 irregular migrants, 12 of them children.

49 migrants rescued at Aegean Sea

Further, in southern Izmir, anti-smuggling and organized crime units operating in Seferihisar’s Doganbey area detained 15 migrants, including three children.

Additionally, a rubber boat carrying 49 irregular migrants, including 24 children, was rescued off the coast of Seferihisar after its engine malfunctioned and the occupants requested help.

All migrants have been transferred to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management for further processing.

Türkiye continues to face significant migratory pressures as a key transit country for individuals seeking to reach Europe, often crossing the Aegean Sea under perilous conditions.
