Türkiye’s national football team will play Mexico in their second friendly match during the U.S. training camp, preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches starting in September.
The match will be held at Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on Wednesday, June 11, beginning at 04:00 a.m. (GMT +3).
This will be the first official match between Türkiye and Mexico at the senior level.
The referee for the match will be Moeth Gaymes from St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation. His assistants will be Denroy Barker (St. Vincent) and Ryan Graves (United States). The fourth official will be Brayan Cruz from Costa Rica.
Türkiye opened the U.S. camp with a 2-1 victory over the United States. The match against Mexico will conclude the camp, after which the team will return to Türkiye.
The upcoming game against Mexico will be Türkiye’s 641st official international match. In its 102-year history, Türkiye has played 640 matches — 354 competitive and 286 friendlies — achieving 251 wins, 150 draws, and 239 losses.
Of these matches, 275 were away, 276 at home, and 89 on neutral grounds. Türkiye has scored 878 goals and conceded 913. The national team has faced 91 different countries: 555 matches against European teams, 34 against Asian teams, 24 against African teams, 24 against teams from the Americas, and 3 against teams from Oceania.
Türkiye’s only forfeit win was awarded against Greece in a friendly on November 17, 2015, at Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium. The match ended 0-0, but FIFA later awarded Türkiye a 3-0 victory after Greece fielded an ineligible player.
Additionally, Türkiye’s 6-1 away win over Kosovo on May 21, 2014, is not officially recognized since Kosovo was not a UEFA or FIFA member at that time.
Italian coach Vincenzo Montella will lead Türkiye for his 23rd match. Under his management, Türkiye has 12 wins, 4 draws, and 6 losses in 22 matches (16 competitive, 6 friendlies), scoring 36 goals and conceding 28.
Montella’s tenure began with three consecutive wins, followed by a five-match winless streak. The team ended this streak with a victory over Georgia in their opening EURO 2024 match.
