Paris 2024 Olympic Games continue to present challenging competitions for Turkish athletes. Performances across various disciplines at the Olympic arena have highlighted the day’s significant developments. Results in archery, judo, rowing, athletics, and shooting once again showcase the competitiveness of Turkish sports on the international stage.
Here are key details of Türkiye’s current performance at Paris 2024.
Judo: Ibrahim Tataroglu’s exit
Turkish judoka Ibrahim Tataroglu advanced to the last 16th round in the 100+ kg men’s judo category at Champ de Mars Arena by defeating Slovenia’s Enej Marinic.
However, he was defeated by South Korea’s Minjong Kim, the reigning world champion, with an ippon score, ending his Olympic journey.
Rowing: Elis Ozbay’s first performance
Elis Ozbay, the first Turkish female rower to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, finished 4th in the single scull D final at Vaires Sur Marne Nautical with a time of 7:46.95, placing 22nd overall in the Olympics.
Athletics: Ozkan Baltaci’s performance
In the men’s hammer throw qualifiers at Stade de France in Paris, Turkish athlete Ozkan Baltaci finished 27th with a throw of 71.40 meters and did not advance to the final.
Shooting: Sevval Ilayda Tarhan and Simal Yilmaz’s qualifying results
In the women’s 25m air pistol qualification at Chateauroux Shooting Center, Sevval Ilayda Tarhan scored 579 points to place 21st, while Simal Yilmaz scored 574 points, finishing 28th. Neither athlete advanced to the final round.
Judo: Kayra Ozdemir’s path to the semi-finals
Kayra Ozdemir advanced to the semi-finals in the women’s 78+ kg judo category at Champ de Mars Arena.
After defeating Mongolia’s Amarsaikhan Adiyarsuren in the last 16, she won against Japan’s Akira Sone in the quarter-finals with an overtime score.
However, she lost her semi-final match against Israel’s Raz Hershko with an ippon score and will compete in the bronze medal match against Japan’s Hayun Kim.
Athletics: Buse Savaskan reaches high jump finals
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Turkish athlete Buse Savaskan has advanced to the finals in the women’s high jump.
Competing in the qualifying round at Stade de France in Paris, Savaskan, who is making her Olympic debut, finished 8th with a height of 1.92 meters.
She is now set to compete for a medal on August 4th, becoming the second Turkish athlete to reach the Olympic final in the women’s high jump after Burcu Ayhan, who competed at London 2012.
Archery: Türkiye’s elimination match
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Turkish archers Elif Berra Gokkir and Mete Gazoz competed in the mixed team category.
They faced Japan’s Satsuki Noda and Junya Nakanishi in the quarter-final match but lost 5-4, thus exiting the tournament.
Boxing: Boxer Esra Yildiz Kahraman advances to quarterfinals
In women’s 57 kg, Esra Yildiz Kahraman won her last 16 match against Tunisia’s Khouloud Hlimi with a 5-0 victory, advancing to the quarterfinals, which she will compete in on August 4th.
