Fenerbahce earned a vital 3-1 win against Basaksehir in the Trendyol Super Lig’s 16th week, keeping their title hopes alive.

However, the victory came at a heavy cost. Head coach Jose Mourinho announced that Rodrigo Becao will likely miss the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury.

Coach Jose Mourinho described the match as intense and dramatic. “Becao has suffered a significant knee injury, and I believe his season is over,” Mourinho said.

  • The Brazilian defender was stretchered off in the 78th minute, leaving Fenerbahce with 10 men as all substitutions had been used

The team also faced additional setbacks.

  • Goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic sustained a muscle injury and is expected to return after the new year
  • Midfielder Oguz Aydin’s condition remains uncertain

Despite these challenges, Mourinho commended his players, saying, “Winning was the best therapy.”

Youssef En-Nesyri’s 2 goals grant Fenerbahce’s victory against Basaksehir

Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri played a crucial role, scoring two of Fenerbahce’s three goals. This was his first brace of the season, bringing his total to eight league goals. His goals proved decisive in overcoming a determined Basaksehir side, securing Fenerbahce’s place in the league title race.

En-Nesyri’s second goal restored Fenerbahce’s lead in the 74th minute, a critical turning point after Basaksehir had equalized. His performance provided relief for fans and ensured the team remained within striking distance of league leaders Galatasaray.

Edin Dzeko scored the opening goal and remains tied as the league’s top scorer with nine goals. Dzeko’s leadership continues to be a key factor for the team. Mourinho praised both forwards, stating, “They fought hard and showed their determination to win.”

Jose Mourinho dedicates Fenerbahce’s emotional victory to Samet Akaydin

Jose Mourinho took a moment to dedicate the victory to Samet Akaydin, who was not included in the squad after a difficult period. Akaydin faced severe criticism and boos from fans during the Athletic Bilbao match, which led Mourinho to give him a break for mental recovery.

“I want to dedicate even the smallest part of this victory to Samet,” Mourinho said. “He is a giant of a man, but I saw someone deeply hurt. I hope this time will help him come back stronger.”

With one match left before the winter break, Mourinho suggested giving opportunities to younger players like Yusuf Kok. “Yusuf can handle the pressure, and I’m confident in his abilities,” he said, comparing the young player’s potential to Raphael Varane during his early days at Real Madrid.

Fenerbahce faces depth challenges as the season progresses. Becao’s injury and concerns over Livakovic’s recovery signal the need for reinforcements in the January transfer window.

Despite these hurdles, the team remains focused on their title pursuit. The win over Basaksehir increased Fenerbahce’s points total to 35, keeping them close to league leaders Galatasaray.
