Former Fenerbahce footballer Elvir Baljic has claimed that the majority of the club’s players are not in favor of Jose Mourinho continuing as head coach.
Speaking on a local sports program, Baljic said, “90% of Fenerbahce players do not want Mourinho to stay,” asserting that the Portuguese coach has lost the locker room’s support.
The club is currently navigating a turbulent period. With President Ali Koc facing ongoing opposition campaigns and unrest within the squad, tensions are high. Koc recently confirmed that Mourinho will remain in charge next season despite the club’s underwhelming performance — a decision reportedly met with discontent among several players.
According to reports by Turkish media, players such as Levent, Cenk, Irfan Can, Ismail, and Djiku have expressed their intention to leave if Mourinho stays on. Additionally, Fred and Talisca are said to be unhappy with the team’s tactical setup.
Baljic supported these claims, stating: “He no longer has credit with the team. When there’s mutual respect and affection, players will fight for their coach. At Galatasaray, 99% of players support Okan Buruk. At Fenerbahce, around 90% don’t want to continue with Mourinho.”
Mourinho was brought in with high expectations, but the lack of trophies this season has fueled criticism and uncertainty about his future at the club.
