Melissa Vargas, born Melissa Teresa Vargas Abreu on Oct.16, 1999, in Cienfuegos, Cuba, is a Cuban-born Turkish volleyball player who plays for the Turkish women’s national volleyball team and Fenerbahce.
She began her volleyball career at the age of six and participated in the World Women’s Volleyball Championship with the Cuban national team in 2014.
After transferring to Volero Zurich in Switzerland in 2017, she moved to Fenerbahce in 2018.
In 2021, Vargas became a Turkish citizen and returned to Fenerbahce for the 2022-2023 season, while also playing for Tianjin Bohai Bank in China in 2023.
Throughout her club career, she has won championships in the Czech Republic and Switzerland and has secured Kupa Voley and Sultanlar League titles with Fenerbahce.
With the national team, she has achieved victories in the 2023 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League, the European Women’s Volleyball Championship, and the Volleyball World Cup.
Her individual achievements include being named the Most Valuable Player in the 2023 European Women’s Volleyball Championship and the FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League.
Additionally, she set a world record in women’s volleyball with a serve speed of 112 km/h during the 2023 European Women’s Volleyball Championship.
