Coach Jose Mourinho acknowledges fans’ disappointment after derby defeat

After the match, coach Mourinho addressed the emotions surrounding the loss, stating, “We upset our fans, and I understand their feelings. They expected more from us. Nobody is more upset than me right now.”

Despite expressing sympathy for the fans, he defended his team, saying, “We did everything to win the match. The side that did more to win lost today.” He also praised the referee, commenting, “It was a good match, and the referee performed well without unnecessary bookings.”

Coach Mourinho believed Fenerbahce deserved at least a draw. “We had two shots hit the post and a goal-line clearance. If we had scored first, we would have controlled the game. Football can be cruel sometimes,” he added.

Similarly, Sergen Yalcin criticized Mourinho for benching key players like Cengiz Under and Irfan Can Kahveci.

You spent almost $16 million on Cengiz, and he’s on the bench. Irfan Can had an incredible season last year, but now he’s sidelined.

former footballer and commentator Sergen Yalcin said

Jose Mourinho’s reliance on veteran players such as Dusan Tadic and Edin Dzeko also came under fire. Yalcin questioned his decision to play Tadic and Dzeko together in a high-intensity derby, arguing that it compromised the team’s balance.

During a discussion about the challenges faced by foreign managers in Türkiye, Mourinho was reminded that Zico was the last foreign coach to win a Super Lig championship.

What should I do, leave?

Speculation grows over coach Mourinho’s strategy, player changes

Mourinho’s handling of Edin Dzeko raised eyebrows, with the striker missing critical opportunities during the derby.

Reports suggest Fenerbahce’s coach Mourinho may be open to parting ways with Dzeko if a suitable offer arises in the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, Youssef En-Nesyri could become a more prominent option in the attacking lineup.

Mourinho’s tenure has sparked debates about whether his approach aligns with Fenerbahce’s long-term ambitions. Critics argue that adapting to the nuances of the Super Lig, particularly in derby matches, is crucial for success.
