Alperen Sengun shines in Rockets’ victory over Cavaliers, boosting All-Star hopes
On Jan. 25, the Houston Rockets, guided by the exceptional performance of Alperen Sengun, secured a 135-131 road win against the Cleveland Cavaliers. This victory boosted the Rockets’ record to 30-14 in the competitive Western Conference.
On the other hand, the Cavaliers, despite their strong season, suffered their ninth loss, bringing their record to 36-9.
Alperen Sengun’s All-Star-like performance
Sengun delivered a standout performance with 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists, playing a pivotal role in the Rockets’ hard-fought win against the Eastern Conference-leading Cavaliers. His dominant display in both offense and defense contributed greatly to the team’s success.
Given his consistent and impressive play this season, Sengun is increasingly making a case for himself as a potential selection for the NBA All-Star Game in 2025. His growth and maturity on the court have established him as one of the brightest young talents in the league.
Team effort fuels Rockets’ win
Besides Sengun, the Rockets showcased a balanced offensive attack. Jalen Green scored 26 points, while Amen Thompson registered a triple-double with 23 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Fred VanVleet added 20 points, and Steven Adams contributed 14. The team’s collective effort and efficient offense were key in securing the win.
Cavaliers’ individual performances fall short
Despite remarkable individual efforts from Darius Garland, who scored 39 points and dished out 9 assists, and Donovan Mitchell, who contributed 33 points, the Cavaliers came up short.
Georges Niang’s 21-point contribution also wasn’t enough to overcome the team’s defensive struggles and limited scoring from Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley, leading to their defeat.
