The United States has initiated the construction of a new military base in Ayn al-Arab, a city in northern Syria occupied by the terrorist organization PKK/YPG, in the border with Türkiye.

Reports indicate that a convoy carrying construction materials and logistical supplies has arrived in the area to facilitate the base’s establishment. Its noteworthy that the trucks carrying concrete blocks for the construction of the base also carried US flags as the footages show.

US convoy delivers construction supplies

According to local sources, the convoy traveled from al-Hasakah in eastern Aleppo along the M4 highway to Ayn al-Arab. It reportedly included construction equipment, concrete barriers, fuel, and logistical supplies.

Eyewitness accounts suggest PKK/YPG terrorists escorted the convoy during its transit.

The new base is expected to be established in a building previously known as the Kenem Hotel, now repurposed as a student dormitory. This marks the first time the US has constructed a military base directly in the center of a Syrian city.

Strategic implications of the base construction

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that the convoy consisted of approximately 50 trucks. According to SOHR, the US will be also supplying that base with soldiers, weapons, armoured vehicles, radars and anti-aircraft weapons.

Analysts suggest that the base aims to reinforce the US military presence in northeastern Syria amid rising tensions and ongoing “security concerns” of PKK terrorists to lose ground in the region.

Recent developments indicate that this military presence may also serve as leverage in ongoing negotiations between PKK/YPG’s so called ‘representatives’ and the Syrian government.

Uncertain long-term strategy for US in Syria

While the base construction represents a significant strategic move, its long-term implications remain uncertain, particularly in light of shifting U.S. political dynamics as president-elect Donald Trump to take power within weeks.

Analysts caution that potential changes in U.S. leadership could alter the course of military engagement in northeastern Syria. For now, construction continues, and Ayn al-Arab is set to become a focal point of U.S. operations in the region to create a shield for the PKK/YPG.

There are also unconfirmed reports, rumors that the U.S. might build a military base in Tishrin Dam, Manbij where Syrian National Army (SNA) engaged in clashes with PKK/YPG terrorists.

Tishrin Dam plays a key role in the region since it provides a large part of the water and electricity supply of the provinces in eastern Syria.

The dam has been under the occupation of the terrorist group PKK/YPG since 2015. Approximately 70% of Syria’s electricity needs are met from the Tishrin, Tabqa and Baath dams.

The YPG is the PKK’s offshoot in Syria, an area where for years the group has tried to establish a terrorist corridor along the Turkish border.
