Türkiye considers reopening embassy in Damascus if conditions met: FM Fidan
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Tuesday said that “Türkiye may consider opening an embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus if conditions are met,” following the overthrow of the Assad regime in the country.
“If necessary conditions are met, the embassy could be opened,” FM Fidan maintained.
Fidan also commented on Israel’s attacks on Syria, stating: “(Israel) is demolishing all its equipment, rendering it unusable.”
Assad regime collapses in Syria
On November 27, heavy fighting broke out between anti-regime armed groups and forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad. From November 30 to December 7, these groups managed to take control of key cities, including Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, and Homs.
On December 7, opposition forces, bolstered by public support, advanced into the capital, Damascus, leading to the complete collapse of Assad’s regime.
The Baath Party’s 61-year rule ended, and Assad fled the capital as the opposition gained control of the city and other regions.
Syria National Army’s gains in Operation Dawn of Freedom
In December, the Syrian National Army (SNA) launched the “Dawn of Freedom” operation, which successfully captured the town of Tel Rifaat from the PKK/YPG terrorist organization.
Following the liberation of Manbij, the region, once a major PKK/YPG stronghold west of the Euphrates, was cleared of terrorist groups.
