Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone call with Khalil Hayyeh, a member of Hamas’s Political Bureau on Wednesday evening.

According to information obtained from sources within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fidan discussed the current situation in Gaza during his conversation with Hayyeh.

The call comes after Israeli strikes on Wednesday in Gaza killed over 320 Palestinians, in violation of the Israel-Hamas cease-fire that was reached in January.

Strong condemnation from Ankara

The Turkish Foreign Ministry had sharply criticized the latest Israeli strikes on Tuesday, calling them a violation of international law and universal human values.

“The massacre of hundreds of Palestinians in Israel’s attacks on Gaza this morning demonstrates that the Netanyahu government’s genocide policy has entered a new phase,” the statement said. Israel “defies humanity through its violations of international law and universal values in the gravest way.”

“At a time when efforts to achieve global peace and stability are intensifying, the aggression displayed by the Israeli government threatens the future of the region. It is unacceptable that Israel is causing a new spiral of violence,” the statement continued.

Ankara has called for the international community to take action, help uphold a cease-fire in Gaza.
