A high-level technical meeting between Iranian and U.S. nuclear experts will be held Saturday (April 26), Tehran announced Tuesday, marking the third round of indirect talks mediated by Oman since mid-April.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said the session, initially planned for Wednesday, was postponed "following Oman's proposal and the agreement of the Iranian and American delegations."

The reason for the delay remains unclear.

The upcoming meeting coincides with the third round of backchannel negotiations between the two nations, also set to take place Saturday in Muscat, Oman — a key diplomatic broker between Washington and Tehran. The latest discussions will again be led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.

'Very good meetings'

Talks in Muscat and Rome earlier this month marked the first serious high-level contacts since U.S. President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018.

Following the most recent meeting in Rome, Araghchi described the atmosphere as “good,” saying the talks were “moving forward.” Trump on Monday echoed this sentiment, stating the U.S. had held “very good meetings” with the Iranians.

Western powers have long accused Iran of attempting to develop nuclear weapons, a claim Tehran has repeatedly rejected. Iran insists its nuclear program serves solely peaceful, civilian purposes.
