Syria to purchase service of two power plant ships from Türkiye, Qatar
Syria plans to acquire the service of two power generation ships from Türkiye and Qatar to mitigate the country’s energy deficit caused by infrastructure damage, Syria’s state news agency SANA announced on Tuesday.
According to Khaled Abu Dayya, General Manager of Electricity Transmission and Distribution, the ships will provide Syria with a total of 800 megawatts of electricity.
“The damage inflicted on power generation and distribution stations, as well as electricity lines, during the previous regime was extensive. We are working to rebuild this infrastructure to deliver electricity across Syria,” Abu Dayya stated.
However, he did not specify when the ships would be delivered.
Türkiye’s power plant ships serve around world
Electricity shortages in Syria have reached critical levels, with state-supplied electricity limited to just two to three hours per day in most regions.
The interim government has set a goal to increase this to eight hours per day within two months.
On the other hand, Turkish companies, especially Karadeniz Holding have been known widely for floating power plant ships around the world.
In a last instance, floating ships belonging to Karadeniz Holding provided electricity to hospitals during the nationwide blackout in Cuba on Dec. 5.
