Russia allegedly delivering advanced air defenses to Iran
Iran has reportedly started receiving advanced air defense and radar equipment from Russia, following a request from Tehran to the Kremlin, as per Iranian officials quoted by The New York Times.
This development marks a significant enhancement of Iran’s military capabilities amid escalating regional tensions.
Strengthening strategic partnership
Iran’s newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of bolstering relations with Russia, describing it as a “strategic partner.” During a meeting with Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Sergei Shoigu, Pezeshkian acknowledged Russia’s support for Iran during challenging times.
“Russia is among the countries that have stood by the Iranian nation during difficult times,” Pezeshkian remarked to Shoigu, according to Iranian state media.
During the meeting, Pezeshkian condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza and the recent assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. He described these events as violations of international laws and regulations.
Russia also condemned Haniyeh’s killing and urged all parties to avoid actions that could escalate into a broader regional conflict.
Promoting multipolar world
Pezeshkian highlighted the shared objectives between Iran and Russia in promoting a multipolar world, which Pezeshkian believes will contribute to global security and peace.
“Shared positions between Iran and Russia in promoting a multipolar world will certainly lead to greater global security and peace,” Pezeshkian stated.
Sergei Shoigu, formerly Russia’s defense minister, now serves as Secretary of Russia’s Security Council. During his visit, Shoigu also met with Iranian Rear Admiral Ali Akbar Ahmadian, a senior commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
