Lebanon’s Health Minister Firas el-Ebyad announced heightened preparedness for potential Israeli attacks, following repeated threats from Israel.

The ministry has readied 150 hospitals for emergencies.

Minister Ebyad highlighted the impact of Israeli attacks since October 8, 2023, on the health sector and the extensive preparations underway.

He expressed regret over Israel’s continued aggression and stressed Lebanon’s commitment to immediate cease-fire calls.

Hospitals are now equipped to handle various emergencies, including injuries from prohibited weapons like white phosphorus.

Over 100,000 displaced individuals have been accommodated in shelters, with collaboration from international partners such as WHO and UNICEF.

Effects of conflict

Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have damaged health centers and caused casualties. The Lebanese Health Ministry reported 564 deaths and 1,848 injuries, with 110,000 displaced.

Calls for a large-scale Israeli attack on Lebanon increase amid stalled negotiations for a prisoner exchange and ceasefire in Gaza.

Various scenarios, including military intervention and political solutions, are being considered.
