In a campaign event in Phoenix, Arizona, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris addressed supporters of Palestine who were chanting “Free Palestine,” emphasizing that it is time for a cease-fire in Gaza.

According to The Hill, Harris responded to the chants by stating, “I have clearly expressed that now is the time to reach a cease-fire agreement and implement a prisoner exchange.”

Harris highlighted that both President Joe Biden and she are working toward a cease-fire and the return of hostages. While she respects the views of the Palestine supporters, she noted that the rally was focused on the election.

Gaza conflict

Since the onset of Israeli attacks on Gaza on Oct. 7, at least 39,699 Palestinians have been killed, including 16,314 children and 10,980 women. Over 91,722 people have been injured. Thousands remain trapped under rubble, and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and educational institutions, has been targeted and destroyed.

The Israeli military has announced the deaths of 684 soldiers, including 331 during the ground invasion since the attacks began.

During a four-day humanitarian pause extended by an additional three days on Nov. 24, 2023, 81 Israelis and 240 Palestinians were released. However, Israel continues to detain and imprison thousands of Palestinians.

Additionally, since Oct. 7, 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have killed 620 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
