President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday called on the international community to uphold its obligations to Gazans and ensure the Gaza cease-fire is respected.

“The Israeli government must not be allowed to violate the cease-fire,” Erdogan said at a joint press conference with Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh in Ankara.

“The world must fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities toward Gazans,” Erdogan added.

‘Alliance of humanity

Erdogan emphasized Gaza’s resilience, despite the loss of more than 50,000 lives, mostly women and children. “Gaza did not surrender, could not be subdued, and Gazans did not bow down to the oppressors,” he said.

He stressed that “as an alliance of humanity, we must work harder to ensure adherence to the cease-fire and heal the wounds in Gaza.”

Erdogan also called for peace talks to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Earlier Thursday, Erdogan welcomed Khurelsukh at the Presidential Complex in Ankara. The two leaders held one-on-one and delegation-level talks before their joint press conference.
