Ahoo Daryaei, the Iranian university student who staged a protest against the government by stripping down her clothes in Tehran, has been released by authorities without facing charges.
Her arrest and subsequent release have sparked global attention, with many calling for justice and highlighting ongoing human rights concerns in Iran.
Global reactions to Ahoo Daryaei’s protest
The incident, which took place in early November, quickly went viral after a video of Daryaei was shared on social media.
Known as “Ahoo” to her friends, Daryaei was allegedly assaulted by militia members connected to the Iranian government.
In protest, she stripped down her clothes to express her opposition.
Iranian authorities claim medical reasons for release
Iran’s judiciary spokesperson, Asgar Cihangir, confirmed that Daryaei was released after receiving treatment for medical concerns.
“She was transferred to a hospital, where it became clear that she was ill, and she was then handed over to her family. No legal action has been taken against her,” Cihangir explained.
