Palestinian resistance group Hamas thanked Türkiye for expressing its condolences immediately after the assassination of the head of the political bureau Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, and for attending the funeral with a large delegation.

In a written statement on its website, Hamas expressed gratitude to all the leaders, governments, and individuals who conveyed their condolences over the assassination of the movement’s leader, Haniyeh.

Hamas specifically thanked Türkiye for its condolences from the outset and for its large attendance at the funeral ceremony. The statement read: “We thank Türkiye– its president, government, parliament, and people – for its condolences from the first moments, including the presence of the president and officials, and for the largest official and popular attendance at the funeral ceremony.”

The statement also expressed thanks to the Iranian president and people, as well as to Qatar, for receiving and burying the body.

“We declare that we remain loyal to the blood of our martyrs and the sacrifices of our people and their hopes and aspirations for the liberation of the land and the establishment of a fully sovereign and independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital,” the Hamas statement concluded.
