Armed attack targets Iran’s supreme court judges, killing two and injuring one
An armed attack on three judges of Iran’s Supreme Court in Tehran has resulted in the deaths of two judges, with one sustaining injuries, local media reported on Saturday.
The victims have been identified as Judge Mohammad Moghiseh and Hojatoleslam Ali Rayzini, both senior members of the judiciary. Moghiseh served as head of Branch 53, while Rayzini was head of Branch 39.
Both were fatally shot in what has been described as a terrorist attack. The third judge, whose identity has not been disclosed, was injured and is receiving medical treatment.
According to initial investigations, the assailant had no known connection to the Supreme Court or any of its cases. The attacker, who is believed to have acted alone, was not a client of any of the Court’s branches, authorities said.
In a tragic turn of events, the assailant reportedly attempted suicide after carrying out the shooting. He was immediately detained by security forces following the incident.
The attack, which took place in broad daylight, has sparked widespread concern over the safety of judicial officials in the country.
Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the motives behind the assault.
