President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for international recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and announced major infrastructure investments during ceremonies at the TRNC Presidential Complex on Sunday.
"TRNC should establish diplomatic, political and economic relations, and the injustice shown to the Turkish Cypriots for decades must finally end. We wholeheartedly believe that this will eventually happen," Erdogan said during the groundbreaking ceremony for the New Nicosia State Hospital and the opening of the Nicosia Northern Ring Road Bridge Junction and Connection Roads Project.
Erdogan expressed full support for TRNC President Ersin Tatar's two-state solution vision, stating: "Our support for the two-state solution vision put forward by Ersin Tatar is complete. It is time for the international community to reconcile with the realities on the ground."
The Turkish president also noted Ankara's unwavering commitment to Turkish Cyprus, declaring: "We are here for the unity, solidarity, peace and prosperity of the Northern Cyprus Turk. We will always be here."
During the ceremonies marking the 51st anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation, Erdogan underlined the significant development achievements and new projects.
"No matter which door they close to block the path of the Turkish Cypriot, we have always found new doors to open, new paths to find," Erdogan said, referencing ongoing challenges faced by the territory. Türkiye fully supports efforts for a two-state solution on Cyprus, said Erdogan, adding that it is high time the global community comes to terms with the realities on the divided island.
"We firmly believe that this will happen sooner or later," he said.
“We have made the TRNC a shining star of the Eastern Mediterranean not only in transportation but also in tourism, employment, and investment,” he added.
"We ended the centuries-old water shortage of the Turkish Cypriot. After drinking water, we are taking revolutionary steps in agricultural irrigation," Erdogan said, referencing the underwater pipeline from Türkiye.
The Mesaoria Plain irrigation line is increasing productivity, while the entire production chain is being strengthened from citrus packaging facilities to cold storage warehouses, feed production centers, and livestock support.
Erdogan also outlined extensive achievements under the Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement, noting that ₺37 billion ($916,5M) in resources were provided over the past two years. In the past 22 years, Türkiye has delivered 10 health facilities with a total capacity of 516 beds and 59,000 square meters of covered area to Turkish Cyprus.
Erdogan later highlighted ongoing technical work to strengthen energy supply security, including the Submarine Cable Electricity Transmission Project from Türkiye. Seven mobile power plants have been commissioned to ensure short-term supply security.
In digitalization, Erdogan noted that systems have been established to facilitate public services in digital environments, with fiber infrastructure investments advancing the process further.
