Lawyers representing actress Serenay Sarikaya and singer Mert Demir have dismissed allegations that their relationship was fabricated as part of a financial scheme. Speaking to Hurriyet, both legal representatives confirmed that no official notification has been received regarding a potential investigation.
$5M allegation shocks entertainment industry
The controversy began when Türkiye’s Competition Authority launched an investigation into 21 talent management and casting agencies over allegations of monopolistic practices. Among those under scrutiny is Ayse Barim, a co-owner of ID Consultancy. Reports claim that Barim facilitated a payment of $5 million from a businessman to Sarikaya and Demir, allegedly to stage a romantic relationship.
Both Sarikaya and Demir are rumored to be called for questioning, but their lawyers have refuted the claims as baseless.
‘Pure fabrication’ says Serenay Sarikaya’s lawyer
Ismail Filiz, Sarikaya’s lawyer, stated: “We became aware of the investigation through media reports. No official notice has been served to my client. If such a notice arrives, we are ready to cooperate fully.”
Similarly, Demir’s lawyer, Ali Cem Bilgili, dismissed the financial allegations:
“These claims are entirely false. Once the process is complete, the truth will emerge, and it will be clear that these accusations are unfounded. My client has reached his current success through years of hard work and dedication.”
Ayse Barim barred from leaving the country
In a significant development, the prosecution imposed a travel ban on Ayse Barim, citing concerns that she might flee Türkiye. This move has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry.
Mert Demir breaks his silence
After months of speculation, Mert Demir addressed the rumors in a heartfelt social media post:
“For the past year, I have chosen to remain silent despite the false news and baseless accusations against me. I refrained from engaging with these cheap speculations to protect my integrity. However, my silence has emboldened malicious individuals and led to further misinformation, upsetting me and my supporters.”
Demir emphasized his journey to success, saying: “My career is built on years of dedication, countless hours in the studio, and relentless hard work. Without the support of a record label, producer, or sponsor, I have reached this point on my own. Despite this, some malicious individuals continue to target me, my family, and my private life. They label my happy relationship as a publicity stunt, question my identity, and fabricate lies about my career.
The truth is, I love my work and have always received support directly from the public. I am in a deeply loving and genuine relationship, not a fabricated one. I hope everyone can experience such beautiful feelings in their own lives.”
Demir concluded by announcing plans to take legal action against all false reports moving forward.
