Sultan Abdulhamid II came to visit this place

Owner of the coffee shop Fatih Tuzel said that in the past, the place was a wooden village cafe, and Sultan Abdulhamid II used to visit it frequently.

He added that when the Sultan went hunting in Ilimtepe, he stayed here and prayed in the mosque next door.

Maintaining that the tree is a witness to history, Tuzel said: “The tree is 652 years old. According to a rumor, Sultan Mehmet II is said to have stayed here and tied his horse to the tree.”

“On Jan. 18, 1923, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk’s train broke down while passing through here and he drank coffee. A fisherman made the coffee. Ataturk asked for another coffee from the fisherman,” he added.

The historical plane tree in the area was registered and taken under protection in 2014.
