Turkish TV series reach 750M viewers in over 170 Countries

Turkish TV series reach 750 million viewers in over 170 countries, Türkiye’s deputy minister of culture and tourism says during his visit to the European Film Market

Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Batuhan Mumcu visited the European Film Market (EFM) at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) in Berlin, Germany. He highlighted the global reach of Turkish TV series, stating that they are broadcast in over 170 countries worldwide, spanning from the U.S. to Russia, the Far East to Latin America, reaching an audience of approximately 750 million people.

Mumcu said that the Berlinale and the European Film Market are one of the most important cinema events in the world.

Emphasizing the significance of participating in the prestigious event, which attracts global attention and gathers thousands of industry professionals, Mumcu underscored the successful representation of Turkish cinema and Türkiye itself at the event. He mentioned that Turkish films were showcased at the Turkish stand during the festival, tailored to the preferences of foreign industry delegates.

Mumcu further elaborated, stating, “We host co-production and collaboration meetings for our filmmakers, which are pivotal for fostering new partnerships and cooperation opportunities. Additionally, the international sale of our films occurs here, which holds great importance for us.”

Pointing out that Turkish TV series are watched all over the world, Mumcu said, “Currently, our TV series are being aired in over 170 countries worldwide, spanning from the United States to Russia, and from the Far East to Latin America, collectively reaching an audience of approximately 750 million individuals. The Turkish TV series and film industry ranks among the top five countries globally in terms of exports. These TV series play a significant role in promoting Türkiye and Turkish culture within the regions where they are distributed.”

Mumcu also disclosed that they have initiated efforts toward organizing a fair in Türkiye, considering its prominent position as one of the leading countries globally in the realm of series content.

Pointing out that very important productions featuring world stars such as Guy Ritchie, Jason Statham, Hugh Grant, Josh Hartnett, Henry Cavill, Salman Khan were shot in Türkiye, Mumcu said, “Many Hollywood films want to shoot in our country. Hopefully, we will host many productions in Türkiye in the coming period.”

Mumcu also held discussions with Dennis Ruh, the director of EFM, an event held in conjunction with the festival that brings together 10,000 professionals from the global film and media sectors. Their talks centered on exploring collaboration prospects on the international stage and outlining forthcoming initiatives to be undertaken.
