Erzurum’s historic Twin Minaret Madrassa, a prominent symbol of the city, is attracting significant interest following its restoration. Known as one of Türkiye’s rare foundation museums, the madrassa captivates visitors with its rich collection.

This important Seljuk-era structure in Erzurum was granted “museum” status by the Natural Assets Protection Board in 2019, after extensive restoration work carried out between 2011 and 2016.

The madrassa showcases a variety of historical artifacts, including manuscripts, calligraphic panels, candlesticks, carpets, rugs, clocks, mosque banners, soup cauldrons, incense burners, and wooden artifacts.

The restoration and conservation of these items were meticulously handled by the General Directorate of Foundations.

Visitor numbers see rapid increase

Murat Uslu, regional head of the General Directorate of Foundations in Erzurum, stated that the Twin Minaret Madrasa is the pride of Erzurum and one of Türkiye’s seven foundation museums. Uslu revealed that the madrasa hosted 331,000 visitors in 2022, 517,000 in 2023, and has welcomed 357,000 visitors since the beginning of 2024.

“The doubling of visitor numbers each year shows that we are successfully promoting our cultural development and artifacts,” he added.

Moreover, the circumcision festival organized by the General Directorate of Foundations at the end of this month will also take place at the madrassa.
