The 2024 Hungarian-Turkish Year of Culture events, which were announced last December on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye’s signing of diplomatic cooperation with Hungary on Dec. 18, 1923, kicked off with a concert by the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra at the Ataturk Cultural Center (AKM).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Peter Hoppal, undersecretary of the Hungarian Ministry of Culture and Innovation, said, “The Year of Culture will give us the opportunity to get to know our cultures better and strengthen our friendship.”
Before the concert, the opening of the exhibition, “Hungarians in the Construction of the Republic of Türkiye,” took place. This collaborative event, organized in partnership with the Hungarian National Museum and the Liszt Institute – Hungarian Cultural Center, sheds light on the significant contributions of Hungarians across various fields, including architecture, music, engineering, and agriculture, during the formative years of the Republic of Türkiye.
Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Judit Hammerstein, director of the Hungarian National Museum, said, “Tonight we will commemorate the Hungarians who won the hearts and love of Turks, who contributed to the construction of Türkiye, who worked in education and who came to learn.”
The exhibition can be visited at AKM until Feb. 4.
