Türkiye’s economic woes slash private university scholarships
Economic challenges have significantly impacted students, leading to a considerable reduction in scholarship amounts.
In Türkiye, private universities’ scholarships for successful students have been dwindling year by year.
When comparing the scholarships awarded by universities over the last three years to the minimum wage, the economic crisis has significantly affected these financial aids.
Three years ago, universities offered scholarships amounting to three times the minimum wage. This year, however, the scholarships have decreased to as low as TL 15,000 ($454) per month.
Tuition fees for undergraduate and associate degree programs at private universities are expected to start from at least TL100,000 ($3,027) and can exceed TL1 million ($30,270).
While these universities are revealing their scholarship programs, they are keeping their annual tuition fees undisclosed.
They are required to announce their annual tuition fees by July 25, 2024, when the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) 2024 selections begin.
