Industry Minister Kacir announces IMECE, Türkiye’s first indigenous Earth observation satellite, completes a successful year in orbit
Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacir announced Monday that Türkiye’s inaugural indigenous high-resolution Earth observation satellite, IMECE, has completed its first year in orbit.
In a statement posted on X, Kacir highlighted the success of IMECE, developed by the TUBITAK Space Technologies Research Institute and launched into space on April 15, 2023.
He emphasized that all vital components of IMECE are domestically produced, including its electro-optic camera, which delivers high-resolution imaging from an altitude of approximately 700 kilometers (435 miles).
“With the completion of IMECE’s successful mission, Türkiye has demonstrated its prowess in space technologies,” Kacir remarked.
He also announced the upcoming launch of Türkiye’s first national communications satellite, TURKSAT 6A, scheduled for the week of July 8.
He stated this milestone will position Türkiye among the 11 countries globally capable of independently developing their communications satellites.
