Turkish hazelnut exports soar last 5 months, surge in global demand
Türkiye’s hazelnut exports soared by 28.7% in the first five months of the 2024-2025 export season, surpassing $1.3 billion in revenue, according to a statement from the Black Sea Hazelnut and Products Exporters’ Association.
Between Sep. 1, 2024, and Jan. 31, 2025, Türkiye exported 160,412 metric tons of hazelnuts, generating $1.3 billion. In comparison, during the same period last season, hazelnut exports stood at 141,564 metric tons, bringing in $1.01 billion.
Surge in global hazelnut demand
The rise in exports is attributed to the increasing global demand for hazelnuts and Türkiye’s high-quality production. Türkiye remains the world’s leading hazelnut producer, with an annual output exceeding 684,000 metric tons—far outpacing Italy, the second-largest producer, which harvests only 85,000 metric tons.
Meanwhile, natural hazelnut kernel prices in Europe have climbed to $8,160 per metric ton, marking a 10% increase compared to 2023.
