Turkish EV Togg valuates partnership opportunities, eyes Chinese collaborations
Turkish electric vehicle brand Togg is exploring potential partnerships with Chinese firms as it seeks to expand its market presence, the company’s CEO Gurcan Karakas said Friday.
Speaking at the COP29 summit in Baku, Karakas emphasized that Togg is open to evaluating all options but will only disclose details once talks reach an advanced stage.
Sustainable production at Europe’s cleanest facility
Karakas highlighted Togg‘s commitment to sustainability, noting that the company’s production facility in Gemlik is recognized as one of the cleanest in Europe. He underscored Togg’s focus on reducing emissions and using renewable energy in its operations, including the Trugo charging stations.
“We were founded as a company with a green vision and a focus on sustainability. We have invested nearly €2 billion ($2.12 billion) so far, prioritizing environmental responsibility,” Karakas said.
Strong sales performance and efficient delivery system
Togg has streamlined its sale process, allowing customers to receive their customized vehicles within one to two weeks. Karakas reported that the company received 177,000 pre-orders last year, exceeding expectations.
He noted that demand has stabilized and that the delivery process is now well-established.
Potential Chinese collaboration under review
Karakas confirmed that Togg is considering a potential partnership with Chinese companies but noted that discussions are still at an early stage.
“We are evaluating various opportunities, but we do not expect these talks to take another two years to reach a conclusion,” Karakas stated.
Export plans for Togg to target European market by 2025
Karakas revealed that Togg plans to begin exporting its vehicles to Europe by September 2025.
The company’s focus remains on solidifying its presence in the domestic market, where one in three electric vehicles sold is a Togg. He added that Togg sold 40,000 units through direct sales and is exploring alternative sales models.
