One of Türkiye’s most popular tourist destinations, Mugla welcomed a remarkable 2,617,473 foreign tourists in the first eight months of 2024.

Known for its natural beauty, ancient cities, and vast accommodation capacity of 340,000 beds, Mugla continues to be a top choice for both domestic and international visitors.

UK Leads the way in tourist numbers

According to data from the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, the majority of tourists came from the U.K.

A total of 1,118,079 British tourists visited Mugla, followed by 278,465 Russians, 211,510 Poles, 163,638 Germans, and 66,498 Dutch visitors.

Additionally, 779,283 tourists arrived from various other countries.

8% increase in foreign tourist numbers

Governor Idris Akbiyik stated that the number of foreign tourists increased by around 8% compared to the same period last year when Mugla welcomed 2,429,981 visitors.

Akbiyik also highlighted that Mugla attracts between 7 and 10 million domestic tourists annually.

He emphasized that the U.K. remains one of Mugla’s largest tourist markets, with the city consistently hosting millions of British tourists every year.

Mugla’s growing appeal in sports tourism

Besides its beaches and historical sites, Mugla has gained prominence in recent years for sports tourism.

Governor Akbiyik noted that Mugla hosts numerous national and international sports events, which have contributed to the increase in visitor numbers.

With year-round cultural, artistic, and sports activities, Mugla is extending its tourism season beyond the summer months.

Rising popularity of boutique hotels

Ali Mursit Yagmur, President of the Dalyan Hoteliers and Tourism Association, reported that more tourists, both domestic and international, are opting for boutique hotels.

He added that Dalyan, in particular, has seen an influx of expatriates, drawn to its attractions such as Iztuzu Beach, reed beds, and historical sites.

Yagmur expressed satisfaction with the growing interest in boutique accommodations.
