Despite sanctions, US imports Russian oil at $74.9 per barrel
In Nov. 2023, the US imported oil from Russia for the first time since April 2022
According to U.S. foreign trade data, Washington bought 10,000 barrels of oil from Russia in November 2023 for $749,000.
It is noteworthy that imports were realized at $74.9 per barrel.
The U.S. imposed sanctions on Russia’s energy sector due to the war in Ukraine and halted oil imports from Russia in April 2022.
The G-7 countries had also introduced a ceiling price of $60 per barrel on Russian oil in December 2022.
The recent U.S. purchase of Russian oil, exceeding the price ceiling set by G-7, marks a notable development in the complex dynamics of international energy trade.
