Finance Minister Mehmet Sisek has announced a debt amnesty for public receivables totaling over $121 million, affecting 6.8 million taxpayers.

Under the debt restructuring law enacted last year, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance had planned to waive receivables tracked by its collection offices that were unpaid as of December 31, 2022, and did not exceed $60 per individual.

Since the law came into effect in March 2023, debts of 6,818,000 taxpayers, each amounting to 2,000 ($60.55) or less, have been forgiven. In response to written parliamentary questions, Minister Simsek revealed that the total amount of receivables forgiven under this debt amnesty is 4.02 billion ($121.7 million).
