Turkish and Qatari foreign ministers discuss Gaza’s humanitarian situation during a phone call amid Israel’s retaliatory offensive and blockade

Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed the current situation in the Gaza Strip in a phone call on Tuesday.

They exchanged perspectives on the humanitarian conditions in Gaza and efforts toward achieving a cease-fire, the sources revealed.

Qatar played a crucial role as a key mediator in securing a temporary cease-fire in Gaza during November 2023, effectively enabling the delivery of much-needed humanitarian aid.

Since Oct. 7, 2023, following a cross-border attack by Hamas, Israel has been conducting a retaliatory offensive in Gaza. This offensive has resulted in the loss of nearly 1,200 lives.

Tragically, the toll has risen to approximately 31,200 Palestinians killed and over 72,900 others injured. The region has suffered significant destruction, mass displacement, and severe shortages of basic necessities.

Furthermore, Israel’s implementation of a severe blockade on the Palestinian enclave has pushed its population, especially those in northern Gaza, to the brink of starvation.
