Ongoing counterterrorism operations in northern Iraq

The ministry confirmed that 10 PKK/YPG terrorists were killed in the Hakurk region, while another terrorist was taken down in the Metina area. The statement emphasized that Türkiye’s efforts to combat terrorism remain active, particularly in targeting PKK/YPG elements in northern Iraq.

“We will continue to conduct unforeseen, rapid, and continuous operations to eliminate terrorism at its source,” the ministry declared.

Türkiye’s strategy against PKK/YPG terrorists

Türkiye has been conducting cross-border operations targeting PKK/YPG positions in northern Iraq for several years, aiming to dismantle the terrorist group’s strongholds. The operations are part of a broader strategy to eliminate PKK/YPG terrorists, whom Türkiye, the United States and the European Union consider a terrorist organization.

The Turkish military has ramped up its efforts against the PKK/YPG both within its borders and across the northern Iraq region, maintaining its commitment to security operations that focus on preventing terrorist attacks and securing the nation’s borders.
