Türkiye has officially suspended all trade with Israel since May 2, 2024, in response to the ongoing Israeli military actions. According to Trade Minister Omer Bolat, no export or import transactions are being processed with Israel.

However, exceptions have been made for Palestinian imports under special conditions.

“Since May 2, both exports and imports with Israel have been halted at customs. No registration is carried out for Israel. However, at the persistent request of the Palestinian government and the Palestinian Ministry of Economy, we are allowing imports by Palestinian importers with the approval of their ministry,” Bolat said during a press conference at the World Cooperation Industries Forum (WCI Forum) in Istanbul, Türkiye.

Palestinian Imports allowed with special coordination

Bolat highlighted that Palestine lacks its own airport, seaport, and independent customs system, making cooperation with Türkiye crucial for Palestinian trade. “We are closely coordinating with the Palestinian Ministry of Economy to streamline customs procedures for accredited Palestinian importers,” he added.

Exports from Palestine to Türkiye are also permitted under these arrangements, allowing Palestinian businesses to maintain some level of economic activity despite the region’s challenges.

Israel trade suspension reflects Türkiye’s stance

The suspension of trade with Israel is a part of Türkiye’s diplomatic stance against Israel’s military actions in the region. “We did everything possible to halt Israel’s aggression through diplomatic and international platforms,” Bolat emphasized, reiterating Türkiye’s commitment to supporting Palestine and Lebanon.

Support for Palestine and Lebanon continues

Minister Bolat reaffirmed that Türkiye will continue to stand by Palestine and Lebanon, as Israel’s actions have affected the entire region.

“We have stopped all trade with Israel, both exports and imports. This is part of our broader effort to stand in solidarity with Palestine and to push for an end to Israel’s aggressive policies,” Bolat concluded.
