President Erdogan promises reevaluation of retiree pensions, resonating with 90,000 supporters ahead of the local elections in Bursa rally

Two days before the local elections in Türkiye, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivered a stirring speech at an election rally in Bursa, addressing 90,000 enthusiastic supporters.

Erdogan, highlighting that Bursa hosts the first domestic car brand, Togg’s factory, stated, “We know that Bursa has no room for empty talk, bluster, lies, or deceit. Because Bursa is the city of labor and production.”

Parallels between Bursa’s historical sacrifices and Gaza

Reflecting on history, Erdogan underscored the significant support Bursa provided during the historic Canakkale independence struggle.

“What is happening in Gaza recently is no different from that. Faced with the Muslim blood flowing abundantly in Gaza,” the president said.

Addressing the political landscape, he expressed concern over the inconsistency and drift within the largest opposition party. Erdogan urged voters to consider the broader implications of their choices in the upcoming elections, emphasizing that they would not only select city mayors but also shape the future political direction of the country. “I believe Bursa will make the right decision on March 31,” he added.

Retiree pension reevaluation in July based on 1st half-year inflation

Regarding economic challenges, Erdogan highlighted high inflation as a pressing global issue, reaching its peak in the last 50-60 years. He acknowledged the hardships faced by workers and retirees as “the ones most affected by the high cost of living.”

“We made approximately a 50% increase in both minimum wage and retiree pensions at the beginning of the year. We also increased the holiday bonuses for our retirees by the same rate. Additionally, we made a one-time payment of ₺5,000 liras. Before that, we made a one-time payment of ₺5,000 to all 16 million of our retirees. Now, by raising bank promotions to between ₺8,000 and ₺12,000, we have provided our retirees with a new opportunity,” he added.

Furthermore, he expressed optimism regarding the decline of inflation in the latter half of the year. Additionally, he highlighted the alleviation of the construction burden in earthquake-prone areas as a means to improve the economic situation for workers and retirees, bringing them closer to a deserved level of prosperity.

“We will reevaluate retiree pensions in July based on the inflation in the first six months of the year. The preparations for expanding the application of adding 600 additional grades to our civil servants have been completed.”

Number of active insured individuals in Bursa: 1.1M

In the end, Erdogan highlighted the extensive investments made in Bursa over the past 21 years, totaling over ₺327 billion. Also, the number of active insured individuals in Bursa increased from 514,000 to 1.1 million.

These investments include the construction of 10,632 new classrooms, 81 sports facilities, 88 health facilities, 23,547 residences, 11 national gardens, the extension of the divided road length from 200 kilometers (124.27 miles) to 608 kilometers, 24 dams, three drinking water facilities, 17 ponds, 47 irrigation facilities, 12 hydroelectric power projects, and eight new organized industrial zones.

“Just as we have tripled Türkiye’s growth in 21 years, we will double it again in the coming period. As long as we protect our unity and solidarity. The rest is just a matter of effort, timing, and planning,” Erdogan concluded his remarks.
